Bartoline – the VIP of DIY – is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of decorating sundries for the home improvement industry, specialising in paint solvents, fillers, adhesives, decorating sundries and wood care products. The business was established in 1876 and has been a prominent employer in Beverley ever since.
PPCF led the sale process on behalf of the shareholders which resulted in the business being acquired by Enact, a division of Endless LLP, which specifically focusses on SME’s. Enact works with such companies to enhance their performance through a combination of capital investment and hands-on operational and strategic support.
Retiring Managing Director and shareholder Simon Barton said “During the entire process, the decision to engage with Park Place proved a masterstroke and both Ben and Richard excelled in their respective roles. They co-ordinated the sale process with extreme professionalism and diligence. Despite a number of significant hurdles to overcome they both steered the process along giving the Board the confidence and indeed advice on how to get the sale over the line. Highly recommended.”
Ben Peacock, who led the deal for PPCF, commented “The convergence of new customer wins, product extensions and lockdown-driven accelerated trade with management succession issues led us to advise that the time might be right for the extended family shareholders to realise their investment. Mindful of Bartoline’s 140+ year history this was a significant step to take and one which we relished given the extra dimensions. There was strong interest in the business and in Enact we found a proven equity investor who had identified a strong leader which addressed the management succession issue and will enable the business to build upon its longstanding history.”
