Robinson Contract Services (“Robinson”) is based in Brandesburton, near Driffield and was founded by Cliff Robinson in 1942 and has grown to become one of the region’s most trusted specialist waste contractors.
The Business employs c.45 staff and is Yorkshire's leading provider of sewage sludge transportation and associated services. Utilising a fleet of tipper vehicles, Robinsons manages Yorkshire Water’s sewage sludge waste and recycles c.350,000 tonnes of biosolids to agriculture each year.
The Business has remained under the ownership of the Robinson family since inception and for the last 12 years by the third generation, Julia Robinson. With no realistic family succession, PPCF were engaged at an early stage to assist Julia in considering her options for value realisation and transition of ownership.
It was ultimately decided that an MBO was the preferred solution to allow the Business to retain the Robinson family ethos. PPCF advised the group on structuring, funding and delivering the MBO, with funding provided by ThinCats. The deal enables the management team, Craig Stainforth and Emma Marsland, to become majority shareholders with Julia Robinson continuing to hold a share in the business.
Julia Robinson said: “Ben and Tom were invaluable during our recent MBO deal. Their knowledge and expertise enabled a smooth sales negotiation process; and an almost seamless change of control transaction. They are very approachable and gave advice in laymen’s terms, which made the process actually quite enjoyable! I would absolutely recommend Park Place to other businesses considering a change in ownership.”
